What is the name of your state?
IL

Ok well earlier today for the first time in my life i shoplifted a video game it just looked so easy and thought no one was looking. long story short they took me to this room and asked me a bunch of questions. I didn't have my ID at the time and showed them my college id and then they called my mom to verify my address and age. They guy was actually pretty cool about it. He didn't call the cops. I guess it was more of a warning they took a pic of the item and me. He said it was for target only and their records if i ever do it again. He said he didnt want to call the cops because he didnt feel like doing all the paper work. He was actually pretty nice and i was cooperative. The item was 20 dollars and they said i would just get a fine in the mail. I want to know how much this fine will be he said he could be anywhere from 100 -800 bucks. I also want to know if this is it or do i have a criminal record the cops were never contacted . TY in advance.

How much the fine from Target is is up to Target; not a legal matter.

If the cops were not contacted, then likely no report was ever made, so no, no legal trouble.

More than likely you'll be dealing with a civil recovery company who will bill you for the 'fine'. These companies have contracts with retailers to recover penalties for shoplifting.

BTW- surveilance cameras are everywhere today- you will be caught.
