Police complaint procedure and disclosure

What is the name of your state? Maryland

There is someone who continues to state on a blog or other website that another person is harassing them or stalking them, etc and continues to announce over a period of 2 - 3 months that there is an ongoing "police investigation" on this person.

First of all I think it is highly likely that the police would first tell this person that if she/he were being harassed online to first "stop posting online"...that has been my experience anyway with these things. Second I am in doubt that if someone had a police investigation going on a person that they would be announcing it to the world.

The person making the "police investigation" announcements refuses to provide and case number or law officers contact information of course. A call to the persons local police department of course yielded no results.

What is the procedure when someone calls a police department and says they are being harassed online and is naming a suspect. Wouldn't the police (after 2-3 months) call that suspect being that the accuser has their phone number and address? Wouldn't "something" have to happen? This is very weird for someone to continue to say there is a police investigation on someone and nothing ever happen.

Is there a way the person can call and get information about it and give the police his/her information to speed things up? Is this a right we all have to find out if we are named as a suspect in a case?

Most likely this person is just making the other look bad for whatever reason but I thought I would ask.
