Possible Probation ViolationI was on probation for 3 years in California on a misdemeanor. I completed probation and had the case dismissed. During probation (not too long ago) I did something that wasn't illegal, or even wrong in any way, but which did violate the probation order. Do I need to worry that they will find out about it and they can punish me for violating probation even after the case is dismissed? |

What I DidI was convicted of a computer-related crime (misdemeanor possession of child pornography). The Court ordered me not to use a computer, period. I was never charged with any violation of probation during the term of my probation. However, I did use a computer on several occasions. Not for any illegal or immoral purpose, but it was, certainly, in violation of the Court's orders. I hope that is enough information. Thanks for your help! |

Probation Violation questionI guess I wasn't clear. I just wanted to know if the law allows the Court to violate someone on probation after the case has been dismissed, based on conduct that occurred during the period of probation. That is, if they did find out what I did, and they wanted to violate me, could they do so? Thanks again! |

| Once the case has been dismissed, they aren't generally going to be able to go after you if they find out you DID violate your probation in some way. Once you are off probation, you are generally DONE with probation. I have NEVER heard of this case coming up ... and if it were possible, I know of a lot of crooks I would put away for stuff we found out they did just before their probation was up. - Carl

Probation Violation questionThanks, Carl. I realize that isn't a guarantee, but it puts my mind at ease somewhat. One concern I had (and it may be silly) is that I might be looking at contempt of court, for disobeying a lawful order. |

| missouri Where's the proof? Other then the fact you admitted it on the internet! I can't see them chasing a closed case if no one was hurt and you didn't do a repeat of the orginal charge. I wouldn't worry about it. |
