probation/ warrants

the state of this situation is Kansas..there are a couple of things i would like to ask: first, i'm on probation for a misdemeanor crime, theft..i was arrested for theft yesterday, which is a violation of my probation..what i'm wanting to know is if i don't show up in court i'm aware they will issue a warrant for my arrest, since the crimes were misdemeanors how far will the police go to pursue the warrant? there have been no drugs/alcohol/weapons/or any kind of resistance in any of the charges..i've been cooperative...the other thing i'd like to know is if i've been threatned into these crimes by another individual, can that be used as a defense? this other girl is probably going to be hard to find though, she made some threats i commited the crime(by the way i'm not a minor) so is there any hope of that being used in my defense?

Show up in court. If you don't, the consequences are always worse once they do catch you. I don't know if they will come to your house to get you, but the warrant will probably show up if you get stopped for a traffic violation, travel abroad, etc., and at that point you would be arrested. Hardly worth it to live with that paranoia for a theft offense. Duress is only a defense when someone is threatening your life unless you commit the crime, and it is a defense that juries tend not to believe.

Calatty...

another ?: ok, the charge is a misdemeanor theft, i was told by a law student that if i didn't show in court that i would have a warrant here in Kansas, and if i got pulled over i would be arrested...you're saying that the warrant would be pursued out of state then even though the charge is a misdemeanor? and secondly, one of my roomates is on probation, just recently, and is considering skipping out on it, what are the consequences of those actions, he won't tell us what he's on probation for, says it's a misdemeanor charge, not sure if the reason he's on it will matter...i told him if he did that the cops would come to the apartment looking for him, but was unsure of what else happened since i've never known anyone else on probation before.is there a statute of limitations on anything like that? and is there a statute of limitations on warrants as well? just figured i'd ask if ya knew..thanx

Mydizzyizzy,
When you travel back into the County, US Customs and INS both run you through the computer to check NCIC for any Warrants.

I was arrested at my house early one morning for not paying a running a stop sign ticket. They will come and find you. Its not worth it.
(P.S. I didn't run the stop sign, went to court and proved it, and got my bail money back.)
