What is the name of your state? New Jersey
Obviously this is embarrasing. I've never been arrested before. I visited an escort who has a room at a motel. After leaving I was pulled over by the police. They suggested things would go easy if I cooperated, I did . I was very nervous, but I admitted what I did. The police officer took me in. I was later released and driven back to my vehicle. I now have a court date. The policeman told me not to worry that things would be ok and that there main goal is to arrest her. He said she's the big fish. He suggested when Im in front of the judge that I should request to speak to the prosecuter. I'm not sure what to do. He made it sound like if I cooperated it would be fine. He said I would not end up with a record. I was worried about my name being in the newspaper, He assured me it wouldn't be. I am so sorry about what I did and am so scared right now. I don't know what kind of punnishment I would get for this. I just hope it all goes away. Im so humiliated. Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks

Here are some hints on appearing in court:

Dress professionally in clean clothes.

Do not wear message shirts.

Don't chew gum, smoke, or eat. (Smokers...pot or tobacco...literally stink. Remember that before you head for court.)

Bathe and wash your hair.

Do not bring small children or your friends.

Go to court beforehand some day before you actually have to go to watch how things go.

Speak politely and deferentially. If you argue or dispute something, do it professionally and without emotion.

Ask the court clerk who you talk to about a diversion (meaning you want to plead to a different, lesser charge), if applicable in your situation. Ask about traffic school and that the ticket not go on your record, if applicable. Ask also about getting a hardship driving permit, if applicable. Ask about drug court, if applicable.

From marbol:

“Judge...

You forgot the one thing that I've seen that seems to frizz up most judges these days:

If you have a cell phone, make DAMN SURE that it doesn't make ANY noise in the courtroom. This means when you are talking to the judge AND when you are simply sitting in the court room.

If you have a ‘vibrate’ position on your cell phone, MAKE sure the judge DOESN'T EVEN HEAR IT VIBRATE!

Turn it off or put it in silent mode where it flashes a LED if it rings. AND DON'T even DREAM about answering it if it rings.”

(Better yet, don’t carry your cell phone into the courtroom.)”

Here are six stories that criminal court judges hear the most (and I suggest you do not use them or variations of them):

1. I’ve been saved! (This is not religion specific; folks from all kinds of religious backgrounds use this one.)

2. My girlfriend/mother/sister/daughter/wife/ex-wife/niece/grandma/grand-daughter is pregnant/sick/dying/dead/crippled/crazy and needs my help.

3. I’ve got a job/military posting in [name a place five hundred miles away].

4. This is the first time I ever did this. (This conflicts with number 5 below, but that hasn’t stopped some defendants from using both.)

5. You’ve got the wrong guy. (A variation of this one is the phantom defendant story: “It wasn’t me driving, it was a hitchhiker I picked up. He wrecked the car, drug me behind the wheel then took off.” Or, another variation: “I was forced into it by a bad guy!”)

6. I was influenced by a bad crowd.

You don't want your name in the papers so you post it on the internet?

The police are legally allowed to lie to you to get you to confess to a crime.

The police legally lied to you.

I don't know about you but I always enjoy seeing my name in the paper. I have pride in what I do,,,,,,,,,OH, I see, you aren't proud of paying for sex. Too bad, arrest records are public records and if the paper does one of the "police blotter" reports, you will get to see your name in the paper. Maybe it's just that you don't want your wife to see your name in the paper. When i get my name in the paper,,,,,oh, already been there.

Hope she is understanding and forgiving.

I dont have a wife, its just my friends and relatives that Im worried about finding out. In the police blotter here I see some peoples names are mentioned and others arent. The cop told me that the only way people I know will find out is if I tell them. I hope hes right.

There are a couple of things I try to adhere to in life. One of them is to never do anything I wouldn't want my friends and famiily to know about.

When I visit dad at the fed pen and mom at the mustang ranch, I can always hold my head high because I live my life as if they knew everything.

Like I said, police actions and court procedures are public info. There is nothing preventing anybody from finding out about this.

What if he's wrong? You gonna blame him for being wrong? Find a lawyer who appears in your district court OFTEN, tell him your story, listen to his advice, and hope HE's right!

Check with the DA, they may want you to testify against her for some reduced sentence or something. I would not testify against her if they would not offer you some kind of a deal.

You just fell for it, and they sacked you! The idea when you do something illigal is to not tell anyone about it, especially the cops!!!!

I read a post here about a person in Paterson-NJ (where I live) who was pressured to admit that he stopped for a female on the street because he was picking up prostitutes, he denied, and the cops did not like it.

In many states, and certain towns on NJ have done before .... they even post your picture in the Sunday paper, confiscate your cars, send you to jail, make you pay fine, put you on propation, require you to do community service, and leave you with a permanenet criminal record (wiith the word Prostitution in it).

In some sence, you are half decent as you went for a room in a motel, not in your car .... but it is a victimless crime, and they made a victim out of you!!!!
