What are the chances of some one being charged in the U.S. if a reported was filed in Canada? Because of accessing an administrator's account on an MMO without consent, if said account left it's information in an open site that anyone could access? Also, how and what would to happen if further steps are taken?

Crystal ball is in the shop.

He likelihood depends on the severity of the crime (was damage caused or were you just caught cheating on a single account), the MMO's desigre to pursue prosecution, the Canadian/US authorities desire to pursue prosecution and the ease with which they can identify you and prosecute the crimes. That's a lot of variables to deal with.

The charges, if pursued, would be felonies since any less wouldn't warrant an international prosecution. Your first notice that an investigation is ongoing would be a visit from the feds who would stop by and confiscate your computer and all computer realted materials in your house.

Just because the door to my house is unlocked doesn't mean the stuff inside is free.

Ok, with that being said. They've already filed the report, and he lives at the complete opposite of where Canada is located. All account information for every account was obtained. Stuff was done on said administrator's account. spawns, messing with players levels, etc. Any idea of the time served if he were to be convicted?

cyber crime issues

According to cyber crime, any information or property accessed without permission is an offense. Yes the fact can't be denied that on some sensitive stuff access is subjected to authorization and authentication. Authorization means whether or not a person is authorized. Authentication means whether of not an authorized person has sufficient privilege to access the data inside. It is very hard to assume that by just having user id and password a person has sufficient privilege to make account transaction.

What's the maximum sentence for 1st offenders?
It really depends on the charges which are eventualy filed. Based upon your descriptions, it sounds like it would be canadian charges, but we cannot say much more then that.

At this point, there is not much for you to do besides keeping your nose clean while waiting for a knock on your door.

Here is some general info on statutes you can be charged under, but until charges are filed, if ever, the expected penalty is unclear.
