What is the name of your state? Texas

My daughters father is sending me an affidavit from jail that he wants me to sign stating that I didn't give permission for the officers to search my car. He's in jail on a drug charge. I wasn't there when he got pulled over in my car, and he was driving. Does anyone know if the police have to have the consent of the owner of a vehicle in order to search? Even if they are not driving or in the car? I didn't think this was the case.

No, they do not need the permission of the owner unless the owner was at the scene and even then there are variables that could make even that permission unneeded.

if teh personin control of the vehicle gave them permission, that is all that is needed.

if the officers had probable cause, they didn;t need anybodies permission.
