Receiving Stolen Goods

What is the name of your state? Kentucky

My son was charged with receiving stolen goods last night. He worked at the airport. He placed clothing that had fallen out of a suitcase into his work backpack (where he keeps his vest, gloves, etc.) to give to his supervisor. Before he could find a supervisor a co-worker told airport security they saw him place the items in his backpack. They made him re-write his statement three times (telling him he was not telling the whole truth). They then handcuffed him and transported him from the airport to the Boone County jail. Where he was harassed by the staff for his alleged crime and his last name (which I will not disclose here). He was charged with receiving stolen goods under $300.

My son is mildly mentally retarded, has ADHD (both diagnosed at the age of ten). According to ADA he does not have to disclose his disability because he requires no special accomodations. However, when speaking with him it is apparent he is "slow". He was terrified, has spent the day crying and withdrawn. His co-workers have called numerous times and left inappropriate messages on his cell phone regarding what happened.

I live in Louisville he lives in Ft. Mitchell. No one will speak with me because he is 23. He's so afraid he'll have to serve time (a day for someone like him is too long). I don't have the money to provide him legal counsel. I've contacted his employer but have not heard back from them. I will contact Boone County tomorrow about the harassment during his processing. What should I do? His court date is set for the 28th of this month.

If he can not afford an attorney , one will be appointed for him .

If he doesn't qualify for an appointed attorney , he/you will have to find a way to retain one .

There are many that are arrested and jailed that are laughed at ,made fun of , etc . , and cry all night .

Not much you can do about it .
