Responsibility of Parent?

What is the name of your state? What is the name of your state? Ohio

My nephew (24 yrs. old) has been in a diversion program for 12 months for a domestic disturbance charge he faced as a result of drug induced rage toward his mother and step father at the home he lives in with them. He meets with his probation officer and judge every three weeks and complies to random drug testing. He got back into drugs over Christmas, and was given a warning by the judge. Since then he has spiraled downward and skipped out of his meeting with the judge before they could test him. He went in the following day and was put in jail for seven days. Since his release his behavior has been eratic. He is still living at home with his mother. No one knows where he is getting his drug money from. Yesterday morning his mother found a laptop, still in its box, in the back of his car. Did I mention that he works part time in the warehouse of a major electronics store? She took the box from his car and later in the day examined it, in my presence by taking it out of the box to see the serial number scratched out. She returned it to it's box and left it on the counter. She called my nephew's probation officer and left a message for her to let her know what she found and at this time the stolen laptop is in her son's room, while he has left for the weekend. What are her responsibilities? Can she be held liable for knowing it is in her house? Is calling the probation officer enough or should she call the police?
