Restitution for purchase of stolen property

What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Kentucky

Christmas of 2009 I purchased a trailer and it turned out to be stolen and sometime in February was taken by the sheriff back to the owner.

The sheriff knows I did not knowingly purchase the stolen property and no charges were filed against me.
The sheriff said he was filing out some kind of restitution paperwork so that I would possibly get my money back.

My question is:
Since the bum is now out of jail and I have no idea what kind of paperwork the sheriff filled out on my behalf are there any charges I should file against the guy to either put him back in jail or possibly to recover my money?

Thanks for your time.
