I'm in california. A lot of property was takin from a friend's home where I live, as well as two storage units. The case was never filed. I go to have it exonerated in a couple days. Can I simply ask the police to give me the property back?

Property seized pursuant to a search warrant must be released by the court. You can contact the agency that served the warrant and see what their procedures are for the return of the property. Chances are that you will have to make a motion before the court to have the items returns to you.
