robbery


in nj A store employee put his hands around my sons throat to stop him from leaving. He was going to shoplift but changed his mind, dropped stuff in side store and tried to leave. he successfully left but hours later was charged with strong arm robbery, (he had shoved the man off of him). is he not allowed to change his mind and why strong arm robbery he didnt take anything and was assaulted by employee.

Your son needs an attorney. High-five to the store employee for not allowing the thief to get away.

**A: yes he is allowed to change his mind but one can be charged for shoplifting even if he did not leave the store. And there is a lot more to this story.

Concealing with the intent to not pay for it is all that is required.

Why did I get the feeling he decided to "change his mind" when he observed the store employee following him. Store employees are entitled to use reasonable force to restrain shoplifters.
