What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Colorado

I'm confused about the how the sexual assault reporting process works. Step 1 is reporting to police.. then they do an investigation I assume. What happens after this?

If you're talking about the victim making a complaint to the police about an assault, it is handled the same way any other crime is. The police investigate and possibly involve the DA. If the DA feels that there is probable cause to proceed with charges he will investigate an indictment. If they feel that for whatever reason they need to take the alleged perpetrator into custody, they'll pursue a warrant.

Google "colorado criminal process" and you'll find tons of entries on the rough procedure.

If you want more specific details, you need to describe the situation exactly. This site is not going to just write generalized legal education articles on things.
