| | | Is something amiss here? What is the name of your state? Utah. I was commited to a hospital for 6 months. I did not do what I was charged with. Also, the charge was pending when I was sent off to the hospital, and later dropped. "Pending" was as far as the charge got. Should I be pissed? I'm trying to get the name of the person who charged me, and the cops won't give it away unless done through an attorney. Thanks for replies... |

| | | Most would be happy the charge was dropped.
You can request a copy of the police report, they may or may not give that to you and that may be why they said to get an attorney to get it for you. |

| | | Reply Yeah, I was commited on a pending charge of simple assault. It's all they talked about at the hearing. The only funny bit to the whole thing is that I've never hit anyone in my life. I really wish it had gone to court, so I could have(Hopefully) proved my innocence. |

| | | Screwed? But I guess my question is: Did I get screwed? I'm in Moab, UT. I do have an anxiety disorder and in the past have been diagnosed with depression. But there was no need for me to go to any hospital at the time. Never hit anyone... |

| | | You were sent to the hospital for 6 months for more than depression or an anxiety disorder. You were a danger to yourself or others. Just because you don't remember doesn't mean that nothing happened, it may be because of your illness.
Hopefully you are compliant with your medications and outpatient treatment. Please ask for help in the future before you get to the same place. |

| | | Ah Ah I have never NEARLY been that bad as to "forget" an incident, especially one of violence. But, if you don't believe me, that's cool. Say hypothetically that the incident of simple assault never happened, and the charge was left pending, and I was comitted on it. Did I take it up the ass? That's ALL I want to know. Thanks again. |

| | | Have the local police department run you and see what comes up? Do you have a public defender or guardian? |

Thanks for replies... | Read the following article for specific rules on your scenario:
http://www.le.state.ut.us/Interim/2002/committeelinks/InvoluntaryCommitmentAmendments.pdf
You have the right to know which court signed the order to commit and on what basis. Within 30 days of your involuntary committment you had the right to have your case for involuntary committment reviewed and heard. You had the right as a patient at the time to know your diagnosis, plan of therepy and any medical records they had on you (provided it didnt interfer with the treatment).
I still sense that there is more to this story then is being portrayed. | |
