This sounds fishy to me...

What is the name of your state? Tennessee

Good evening everyone. I would first like to apologize if this thread is in the wrong place, as I'm not really sure what this problem of mine falls under.

I am 19 years old. I'm living with my mom still and with me live my two younger brothers; Mark who is 17(going to be 18 in a couple of weeks) and Jacob, who is 16.

My brothers let a run-away kid stay at our house a few days ago. When the cops came, they searched our house and during the search they noted that my brothers rooms smelled like weed. After they searched our house and couldn't find the kid, they left. To make matters worse, my brothers had their friend over, who was supposed to be in school.

I thought that was the end of it, but it wasn't. An investigator came over today and said that they're going to give me and my brothers drug tests and that if found guilty, I would be the one in trouble. They said that I would be the one in trouble because I was the adult in the house.

I don't see how this is fair; I'm almost never home when they are and the day the run away kid was here and the kid that was supposed to be in shcool was also here I was asleep. How am I repsonsible? Why would I get in trouble? I cannot watch them, I stay out of their bussiness and I'm not their parent.

I don't know what's going on but I nearly had a heart attack today just thinking about me getting in trouble for this. I don't want this on my record... is what he said true? Or was he just trying to scare me into admiting that my brothers smoke pot?

And where the heck is your mother and why isn't she reeling your little brothers in?

Without knowing exactly what you are charged with it is difficult for anyone to make the guesses you want us to make.

Does ma ever sleep or eat? Where is she from Tuesday to Friday?

Tell ma this is it.

You ain't babysitting no more!

Mom usually stays at home on weekends and on mondays is out doing errans.

The cops say that since I'm the adult of the house I would be in trouble even if I'm not watching them or in charge of watching them. I was asleep when this went on and yet they say since I'm the adult I should have known and that I should have called the cops or my mom.

I'm not a lawyer or a cop....

but I would suspect that your brothers MOTHER is responsible for him. I would also question if they can just order drug tests if there was no crime committed. Personally I would have a chat with your bro and tell him to keep his butt squeaky clean and under no circumstances be involved in any contributing to him or his friends pot smoking etc. By the way, I hope you've told your Mom about all of this.

You never should of let them in in the 1st place. Do NOT answer the door for them, do NOT speak with them via telephone, do NOT submit to anything for them. Warrant or a court order only. You have rights. I can understand your mother working but she needs to step up to the plate now (if they try to pull anything, except a court order/warrant and tell them FO)

Better get any weed and anything else out of the house. Even a roche, they may find a judge to sign a search warrant. Clean out the house, even any expired prescriptions bottles and contents.

Be careful of absolutes. If you refuse entry you may find your door broken down depending on the circumstances for which the officers were looking for the child.
