speedy trial rights

Is it a violation of my right to a speedy trial, under montana state law and/or federal constitutional law if i was formally charged with felony buglary the second week of September 2001 and my trial date is set for the last week of March 2002. I have not filed any court papers in the matter. Thank you. Ian

calatty is absolutely correct...

... I was arrested on June 18, 1999 and found not guilty by a jury on April 19, 2001. 'Speedy trial'? Yeah right, it's just part of the game they play! If we weren't 'in the system' how could the bureauracats justify their existance? How could the lawyers make their boat payments?

If I sound bitter, it's becuse I am!

There are a number of reasons cases take so long to get to trial. One is that the defense attorney needs time to investigate and prepare for trial. Another is that the court system is overloaded and understaffed.
