Texas, Failure to appear.

What is the name of your state?Texas.
A friend of mine has been charged w/ pos. charge and missed the given court date. The accused arrived @ the pre-trial desk the following day, there was told, " have a seat, don't go anywhere or you will have an escape charge." Do you have to be in custody to escape?
