so i have this friend who has an exboyfriend in jail for a number of offences..non payment of child support..threats against her..criminal damage but hes wrote to her from jail asking her to go to court and lie and say she exaggerated the threats so he will face a lesser sentence..if she doesn't show up she will have a warrant against her so what can she do about this..if she doesn't lie then hes gonna make it so much worse for her when he gets out

any ideas or options?

Yeah, have the victim bring these threatening letters to court and let the judge have a look at them. Who does this guy think he is, he's the one in prison and evidently he doesn't mind it there because he's giving himself more time by sending threatening letters to his victim.

He sounds like he's right on top, maybe even up and over the top on the stupid chart!

So tell the victim, under no circumstances should she give in to his threats, or she will never get out from under his control. She is the one holding all the aces right now, not him. Make sure she knows it!

Intimidating a witness should get him a couple years tacked on to what may not have been a considerably long sentence to begin with. That is before the stupid kicked in and he started to do the control thing from prison. He must believe he really has complete control over this girl to think his threats would get him less time.....

She should contact the District Attorney's office that prosecuting him. Intimidation of a Witness is a pretty serious charge, maybe more serious than the charges he already faces.

Whatever happens, she should definitely NOT lie on the witness stand. She could be charged with perjury.

tell her if she lies she might be in the cell next to him!! or she can try to get him even more time by bringing the threatenig letters in and by the time that guy gets out he will be too old to do anything!! except bend over for the soap!!
