My brother, who has a grand theft jury trial set for the beginning of August wants to fire his public defender. He thinks he can do this a few days before the trial and have his paid attorney (who he hasn't hired yet!) ask for a continuance. Is this likely to be accepted, or is there a certain amount of time before a trial that you can do this? Thank you.
