I am 20 years old and received a ticket for possession of alcohol. This is my first offense and I am not sure what I need to do. Should I enter a plea of guilty or not gulity? Should I be contacting a lawyer before I mail in the ticket with my plea? What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? |
Not guilty is the ONLY plea where you have a chance of getting found NOT GUILTY or getting a reduced charge / punishment.
Pleading guilty saves virtually nothing. You will not get a reduced sentence for "owning up to it" or whatever nonsense you might hear.
Ideally talk to a lawyer first, but DO NOT sent the ticket late, plead not guilty and get a lawyer.
