Warrant Issued For Failure to Appear (Motor Vehicle) 6 years Ago in Connecticut Connecticut
Ok,
The other day I got a call that I had a warrant out for me and I turned myself in. They told me it was a Failure to Appear for driving with a suspended license in 2001.
I was stunned and have no idea where this even came from.
In mid 2001 I was involved in a car accident and the police officer at the scene told me a I had a suspended license. I DID NOT KNOW this and had never recieved any notices. I believe this was over an unpaid ticket (my fault of course). Anyways, I got a PTA and showed up to court only to find out that the reason I hadn't recieved any notices was that they had the wrong address on file and my notices were sitting in my file at the courthouse. I can't remember what they did for me but they said it was their fault and I ended up clearing it up at the DMV headquarters and had my license re-instated. Since then I have had no problem renewing my registration/license and I would think a warrant would have showed up especially now sine everything is intergrated.
As far as my address goes I moved twice from 2000-2001 and both times updated my address with the post office. I am not sure if that makes it their fault but would like to know. I did ask what the address was on warrant and it was my old one from 2000 and by mid-2001 had changed my address twice with the post office. My thoughts are that if this was issued after I already went to court that it is wrong. And if it was issued before I went to court that year then wouldn't that have been something I needed to take care of also? Perhaps the notices are still sitting in my file in the courthouse.
My question is... what information do I need? I don't know where to start or what I even need to prove. I could not get the date the warrant was issued from the officer but all I do know is that it took 6 years to come up.
Any help would be appreciated. THANKS!!! |
