what can we do?

What is the name of your state? CA
My stepson was installing satellites in a man's home. The man gave him a gun, which the man's brother later reported stolen. The police contacted my stepson and asked him if he had the gun, which he admitted he did and they came and picked it up. He thought that was the end until recently, he had been living in another state and went back to CA to retrieve some of his personal property. On his way back he was pulled over in AZ for expired registration. At that time he was told there was a warrant for his arrest in CA and he was taken into custody. The next day he did a video court thing and signed a waiver of extradition. He is currently awaiting extradition to CA. As I am across the country in a completely different state I have been trying to contact all legal agencies to find out how to get him released. I spoke to the court in CA and they advised me that I may be better served to get him an attorney that handles out of state warrants, but I am not sure how that works and what they can do for my stepson. All the bailbond companies are requesting collateral (ie; a house, which I don't own) to post bail for him once he arrives in CA. What are my options and what are the chances of getting this dismissed as the property has already been returned? There is already a bond set on the case for $25k. I appreciate any assistance. Thank you.

Once he gets to California and an attorney is appointed, the attorney can request release on his own recognizance, but the court is unlikely to grant it since, being from out-of-state, he is a flight risk. The fact that the police came to retrieve the gun won't help him at all.
