Exclamation

what do i do?

What is the name of your state? VA,
I am a single mom and i have never been in trouble before. I have a court date in feb, i am being tried on forgery, and making a false statement. i was doing a friend a favor by driving ger to work and keeping her car at my house over night and i was to come and pick her up in the morning, well that night I got stopped by the cops , they asked for the papers on the car and as i was getting them ,he asked me my name, before i thought about it i said my friends name, i did not have A license. but anyway i said THAT i was her and they checked and found out that i was not her(but didn't let me in on it) he told me to get out of the car so he could explain something to me, he said well Ms. so and so (treating me like my name was what i said it was) I am giving you a ticket for speeding and you have to appear in court on said day, so sign this to acknowledge that you understand about the court date. i did. i signed my friends name and they arrested me on forgery and making a false statement, i received bond and am now waiting for my court date but one thing i remembered , the cop did not read me my rights at no point! is this something i should tell my public defender or is it one of those things that doesn't mattter anyway? I AM NOT TRYING TO GET OUT OF DOING WRONG, I JUST DO NOT WANT TO GO TO JAIL .IS THERE ANYTHING I CAN DO TO SHOW THE JUDGE THAT I AM VERY REMORSEFUL AND WILL ACCEPT ANY PUNISHMENT BESIDES SERVING TIME?

The trick is to BE BE BE remorseful about it. What you did was stupid -- no doubt about it -- and if you're truly remorseful it'll show. The cops taught you a big lesson. They're smart. You're the one who told them everything. They didn't have any reason to read you your rights. I can see it now. "Oh, by the way ms so and so, we're getting ready to arrest you on forgery but before we do, we need to let you know that you now have the right to remain silent because anything you say will be used against you." Get smart. You've got a kid. I feel like Mad Max. "makes me so mad".

Let your PD do what he can do for you.
