So here is my situation. I had a number of electronic devices(laptops, external hard drives) confiscated during a warrant that was served at my home due to a family member who was downloading Child Porn. There was an investigation pending under the State and Feds. We were told by the State(Local police department) that they would drop their investigation and return property after seeing that there was a Federal Conviction. The family member has been sentenced and is currently serving in Federal Prison. I got a call from the local police department saying that they would only release my property under certain conditions. Either without hard drives, or after giving them consent to forensically search them. My only hesitation on giving them consent is that the family member had access to my laptops and hard drives, and some of the hard drives were recently given to me by them. I am worried what will happen if i give them consent and they find something and if they will try to then prosecute me...but I really want my stuff back. I have personal documents/files I would like to keep. MY other hesitation is that I download movies and music/games/porn illegally and dont want to be prosecuted for that either.

Advice, experiences with this sort of situation? Thank you
