What are my options regarding theftWhat is the name of your state? What is the name of your state?Texas I was at a Soccer tournament recently and when my family moved our things from one area to an area next to the field(about 40 feet) my son left his Gameboy and accessories behind. ($250 value). He went back 5 minutes later and the it was gone. Apparently the referee for our game found it and put it in his bag. My wife went up to him and asked where the lost and found was but didn't mention what she was missing. He told her where to go but never mentioned the fact that he'd just found a gameboy. There were 3-4 other parents searching around the area while he was getting ready to officiate the game asking about the gameboy but he never volunteered that he had it. He then refereed the game but never mentioned to myself (one of the coaches)or to the other coach that he'd found something before the game. Eventually after asking a million people I was able to get one of the referees (a sideline judge) to tell me that he saw it in the main referees bag. All three referees are minors by the way.(High School kids) The next day I tracked the referee down and asked him about the gameboy. He then claimed to have turned it in to lost and found. The lady he claimed to have turned it in to was not an actually tournament employee but a parent of a player on the Tournament director's team that was under the tent making up the tournament site. She stated that he never turned anything in to her. I'm in the process of filing a police report but wonder what other options I have? |

If it were me..I would go back to the guy, tell him that he can save himself a lot of grief by giving it back. Tell him you are going to the police, filing a report, and that if he prefers not to give the item back to you, that he can deal with the police, after you give them his name. I would also tell him that you have witnesses who can verify that they saw him take it. I would tell him that if he gives it back, nothing more will be said about the incident. |

| I did that but no dice. I've filed a police report and just wonder what options I have toward the Tournament or the kid. |

| Q: I've filed a police report and just wonder what options I have toward the Tournament or the kid. A: What did you have in mind for each? |

| I'm obviously a mean parent. I'd tell my kid "too bad" and that perhaps he'll be a bit more careful with his belongings in the future.
