what is a sex offender

What is the name of your state? colorado
Who must registar as a sex offender? Is it different state to state? Can you be a sex offender and not have to registar? Is it a life long thing? I was looking on line for sex offenders in my neiborhood, and lo and behold, there is one two houses down. His crime is stated as AGG solicitation of prostition. Does anyone know what that means exactly. Did he beat up a hooker? Someone caught soliciting a prostitute is considered a sex offender?

Come on man, there are hundreds of dictionaries online. Heck, I went to dictionary.com (kind of a no-brainer there), and found this for solicitation:

the crime of asking another to commit or to aid in a crime.

Beat up a prostitute? Wow.

At www.fbi.gov/hq/cid/cac/states.htm you can locate the various sex offender registry laws for each of the 50 states. The state laws vary.

Every state has its own registry and its own list of the laws in that state that require you to register if you violate one. The amount of time one has to register also various. Many registrations are for life, while some are for something like 10 years.

Aggravated prostitution is an enhanced version of prostitution. It means you've been convicted of prostitution more than once. Each state has different laws on prostitution and whether it can be enhanced to a registrable offense, and after how many convictions.

Even some relatively minor offenses can require registration after multiple convictions. For example lewd conduct is typically a misdemeanor and can be filed on someone for mooning another person. In some states a second conviction requires the individual to register for life!
