who can be charged with assault?

What is the name of your state? What is the name of your state? michigan

per request, i am using all lower case letters. Here is the scenario: a pregnant female worker in a public service agency (library) is approached from behind by a man she does not know. he proceeds to reach around her from behind with both hands and place them on her belly. he then says "just the way i like my women--barefoot and pregnant". startled, she turns around and slaps him. i believe that he is guilty of assault, but someone has suggested that, because she did not "warn him that this action was offensive", she is also guilty because of hitting him. i believe that her action could be considered self defense, but would like to know the ramifications of this whole episode. please advise. thank you so much!

**A: if she turned around and kicked him in the nuts, she could claim self-defense.

Of course she could claim self-defense, the guy basically grabbed her and made sexual harrassing comments which could denote he was planning to rape her, for all she knew.
