What is the name of your state? Texas
My 17 year old son is considered, by our insurance company, as a "high risk" driver due to 2 "no-fault" collisions and 1 "at-fault" collision. He is currently included on our automobile insurance policy, which is up for renewal in less than a week.
Someone suggested that, if we separate our son from the rest of the family and purchase his own policy, we (his parents) would not be held liable for any financial damages were he to be involved in an at-fault accident where injuries were involved. Their advice was "the other insurance company will come after your son, not you".
I am highly skeptical about this advice, considering the fact that he is a minor and we are legally responsible for him in a number of situations, and would like to solicit any comments regarding this.
Thank you.
