Q: Is there any way I can have my 6 Month suspension period cut shorter?

A: What did your state's DMV say when you asked your question?

As senior judge indicated, the DMV in NY would be the place to contact to answer your question. They may shorten your suspension period or give you a conditional or restricted license (where you can drive to & from work for example). If you qualify, they will tell you what conditions must be met to get your period shortened or to get a conditional/restricted license.

Since you asked for other opinions....It is my opinion that you have proven yourself to be a danger to all other drivers and should not be allowed the PRIVILEGE of driving a car...

2 tickts totaling 11 points. WOW!! what did you get the tickets for, running over a police officer? or was there more tickets that are included? In either case, I'm with Bay on this one.

Depending on what the tickets are for, many states do allow restircted licenses for to and from work. If this is available to you, be sure to prove that you were worth the gamble by not getting any more tickets.

Here's the rule:
Quote:
The DMV notifies you by mail if you qualify for a conditional license or restricted use license. Your license revocation or suspension notice, or a letter mailed with the notice, tells you if you qualify or not. If you qualify, DMV includes instructions about how to apply for a conditional license or restricted use license. Do not contact the DMV to ask if you qualify. Wait to receive the license revocation or suspension notice in the mail.

Conditional Licenses

The DMV can issue a conditional license to a driver who qualifies and who has a NYS license that is suspended or revoked because of an alcohol or drug-related violation. The driver must attend a Drinking Driver Program (DDP) approved by the DMV. If you qualify, the DMV sends instructions about how to enroll in the DDP with your suspension or revocation notice. Below is a list of some of the reasons why a driver is not qualified for a conditional license. These are not the only reasons. The DMV decides if you qualify under the law and notifies you. You cannot qualify for a conditional license if:

* the judge who convicted you does not allow you to attend a DDP or receive a conditional license, or
* you do not have a valid NYS license or a NYS license that can be renewed, or
* you attended a Drinking Driver Program during the last five years, or
* you had another alcohol or drug-related violation during the last five years.

Restricted Use Licenses

The DMV can issue a restricted use license to a driver who qualifies and whose license is suspended or revoked because of violations or incidents that are not alcohol or drug-related, or because of some drug-related violations. Below is a list of some of the reasons why a driver is not qualified for a restricted use license. These are not the only reasons. The DMV decides if you qualify under the law and notifies you. You cannot qualify for a restricted use license if:

* you do not have a valid NYS license or a NYS license that can be renewed, or
* your license was suspended for a period of 30 or fewer days, or
* the judge suspended your license based on the authority of the judge under the law (permissive suspension), or
* you had another restricted license in the last three years, or
* you have a suspension that you can end through your own action. For example, you cannot qualify for a restricted use license if your license is suspended because:
o you did not respond to a traffic ticket, or
o you did not pay a fine, or
o you did not file an accident report.
So, is it safe to assume you didn't get anything in the mail from the DMV? That would suggest the answer to your question.
