My son purchased a $15000 used car on June 25. He called his insurance company to add it to an existing policy the same day. He was told that he would be covered for 30 days while they were getting the bill out to him. He had received the invoice/renewal for the existing policy which expired on July 2. He did not pay it because he was waiting for the revised invoice (It was only $84.00). On the morning of July 10 he called the insurance company to check on it and was told he did not have insurance. I allowed him use my credit card by phone to pay the premium and he gave me cash. He asked the representative, as I listened, if he was covered now. She said yes. He asked her again if he was covered right now. She said yes but your insurance card will show July 11. Well.. he had an accident that same day and now they are denying the claim stating that he was not covered until 12:01 AM on July 11. By the way, I checked. The payment was charged to my credit card that morning.
Is he covered legally? Is this just another case of an insurance company trying to get out of paying the claim?
