my stepmom was hit in the rear at a light by a county vehical( new jersey)she had an mri and some small medical bills she was out of work for a few months and lost her job her lawyer called her up and told her ,her medical bills were to small and being it was a county vehical she is out of luck she won't be receiving a dime does this sound right? or should she get another lawyer?

Sounds like the attorney also has accounts with the county and they pay better. Almost all governments are self insured, they do not go through traditional insurance companies. Your mother should find an attorney with no ties to the county. She will have to file a claim against the county first, if/when it is denied, then she could sue. If neccesary, seek counsel from another county, they may not be influenced by what goes on in your county.

the attorney is probably right.

Not because she has a bad attorney..well maybe..

But because the satute of limitations is VERY VERY short when it comes to filing a claim against the city,or government agency... here in new york city its 90 days, yes 90 days... if you dont start a claim in 90 days you are out of luck.

Some states its 180 days from the time of the accident, so when did your mom see a lawyer and when was the accident? And when was any papers filed?
