i was stopping along with other cars on an Illinois hiway (one way)that runs thru our town as the stop lite ahead was red. i looked at people on the sidewalk momentarily, and for some reason my foot eased up on the brake, and my rolled slowly ahead to tap the bumper of the car ahead. The stoplight turned green, and this car pulled ahead, and turned into a parking lot of a bank. i thought they were going where they wanted to, and i drove ahead to a clinic that was about mile & 1/2 away. As soon as I parked there, this car pulled beside me, and a young black woman jumped out of her car and told me I had hit her car. I told her I just tapped her bumper. she replied oh no, it was more than that. she asked for my insurance card. I called my insurance co. twice, the night of the incident which was a thursday, and the next day to see if a claim had been made against me. they said no. saturday afternoon, I get a call from an law officer stating that a report had been made that I was involved in a car CRASH thursday and did damage to the person's car. i was incensed, but manage to state my case clearly to the officer. There was no damage to either of our cars, and no one was hurt. she did not call the police (and neither did i) the day of her crash with me, but evidently did so Saturday. i am wondering now, what is going to happen? this girl evidently would like a nice check from my insurance company. there were no witnesses to this "accident". anyone have advice?-
