I took my minivan to a goodyear repair shop for an oil change.
The next day my wife leaves for farmington,nm from fort collins,co.
@ wolfe creek pass the car starts dying & after the third time the car is smoking badly & will not start.
The next day my wife puts 4 quarts of oil in the car & drives back to farmington (100 miles but the car is a little sluggish).
apparently the shop did not replace all my oil which created the over heating of the motor & transmission.
Now the insurance adjuster states that the car drives fine & needs no repair work. A mechanic checks out the car & states there is heat damage that will surface when you least expect it as the main bearing is noisy.
What should I do?

Need to get a something straight. One, changing the motor oil will have absolutely no effect on the transmission. It sounds like one of two things happened. One, the shop did not add enough oil. If you wife added 4 quarts, it appears all that was put in the engine was one quart. Or the engine was filled with oil put the drain plug was not tightened properly and the oil leaked out. Long before the engine started running poorly, the check engine light should have lighted telling your wife something was amiss. You need to contact the shop that changed the oil and ask about filing a claim for the damage to your vehicle. If they do not cooperate, your only option will be to sue.
