auto insurance settlement

YOUR STATE NAME - YOUR STATE NAME - texas

I own a 1996 Honda Civic DX. It was rear-ended in Houston, Texas about 10 days ago by an SUV. The car is still in driving condition after the accident but there has been considerable physical damage to the left side tail lights, bumper, trunk door etc. The insurance company of the other party estimated the damage to be around $4030. Since the cost for repair exceeds 60% of car value, the insurance company offered to pay about $7351 and buy our car. Is this a reasonable offer? What are the other options we have? For no fault of ours, we are forced to give up our car which is still in working condition. Can we negotiate to keep our car but still get paid for the damages?

here is the information from the NADA concerning your Honda Civic DX. Not knowing if it was a 2 or 4 door I went with the 4 door sedan since it has a higher value.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

HONDA
1996

CIVIC-4 Cyl.
Body Style: Sedan 4 Door DX
Model Number: EJ6()2(*)
Weight: 2,319
Average Mileage Range: 72,800 - 75,800
Average Trade-In: $5,275
(*)Average Retail: $6,750

Average Retail Price represents a clean vehicle in good condition and is assumed to have a Clean Title History. If you are looking to purchase a new car Click Here for a free quote from a dealer near you. Click Here for rates as low as 5.29% for 12-36 months. Print a checklist and the required Title & Registration forms to complete your sale

It seems to me that they are offering a fair amount, again not knowing mileage and all of the details but this is the higher priced DX the 2 door DX is about $6300.00 retail.
