What is the name of your state? FL

Could the parents of a 16-yr-old be held liable for an auto accident caused by the child if the child does not live with them - assuming the child is not driving their vehicle at the time? Would coverage be afforded under their policy since the child is a minor? A dinner out is riding on your answer! Thanks.

I am no expert. But last I knew, if the driver or insurance covering them does not cover an accident, the vehicle owner is liable.

As to whether your policy covers your child not living at your home and not driving your vehicle, you would have to take that up with your insurance agent or company.
