I financed my automobile and it is now paid off. However, I never received my title. I wrote a letter to the company that I financed my automobile through asking them to send me my title. They claim that I owe more money because they had placed insurance on my vehicle for some period of time while it was financed. Are they legally able to hold on to my title for this reason?

My response:

Yes, if you agreed to the insurance when you first bought the car. Check your purchase contract, and somewhere in those papers is the insurance premium and your initials.
