Auto Shop not taking responsibility for break in

What is the name of your state? Rhode Island

My husband was told to leave his car outside the shop on Sunday night so it could be worked on Monday morning. Monday was a holiday so there was no one there. Today the auto shop called to say that someone broke into the car, smashed the window and stole the radio.

They said that they only insure the vehicles they have inside the shop not outside. How can an auto shop that sells vehicles and routinly has customers leave their cars, not be liable for autos outside their shop? I saw no sign that said that I was responsible for the car is left in the lot.

call your insurance company and file a claim.

Given the facts you stated, the shop is not responsible for the actions of the person who broke into your husband's car. You need to submit this through your own insurance company.
