can they legally do this?????

on 1/14/02, car was put in shop, due to accident 1/7/02. adjuster inspected 1/18/02. said vehicle totaled,told me to remove plates & personal belongings(this was on a friday ) received priority fed-ex, from ins. co. stating they wouldn't pay storage past 1/22/02. i removed plates that day. ins. co. sent the salvor, to pick up car on 1/28/02. storage paid by co. for the full bill. (1/14/02 to 1/28/02)
Ins. co. paid the bank, last friday. AND- they deducted storage charges from my ACV settlement!
