Car accident/hit&run/fleeing the scene

What is the name of your state? ****land

I and my 2 children were involved in a car accident last night. The other driver had passed me previously doing a high rate of speed, weaving in and out of lanes, etc. When approaching a red light in my lane no one was in front of me, the other driver whipped out from the lane next to me and must have realized it was a red light, I attempted to stop when he was making the lane change but still ended up hitting his rear end. When traffic was clear, we both pulled into a gas station, he asked if we were all aright, he reeked of alcohol and when he saw me dialing on my cell phone and asking him for his insurance information, he became highly agitated and begged me not to call anyone, that he would pay out of his pocket. I got his license plate number, said it out loud, he said that I couldn't remember it and he left the scene of the accident. Police took a report, I contacted my insurance company immediately and then this morning a deputy called wanting to know if I had hit the other driver to which I said yes because...he wouldn't let me finish my sentence. He asked if the the other driver had given his name and insurance information to which I replied that I had asked but was not given the information and the driver left the scene. I then heard him ask someone why they didn't give me that information and it was the other driver in background stating that he didn't do anything wrong and he wasn't going to pay. The deputy thanked me for my time and hung up. I immediately called my insurance and told them of the conversation. My question is this: did that last phone call do any detrimental damage to my claim? what happens to the other driver for being intoxicated at the scene of the accident and for hit/run and fleeing the scene of the accident?
Thanks so much, as it is greatly appreciated.

He's not drunk now. He didn't flee. He stopped. You're going to get slammed for causing this accident. You asked some really stupid questions.

I take it that someone p***ed in your Post Toasties this morning

The police officer at the scene stated , "well, he is going to be charged with hit/run and fleeing the scene of the accident". I had a witness who saw the other driver weaving in and out of the two other lanes and whipping out in front of me. My insurance company has already talked to the reporting officer and I am fully covered. You don't know squat....you stated some really stupid "answers".

Let your carrier know your side of the story, if you hadn't already, and provide them with the contact information for your witness. Were there any injuries, or just property damage?

I called my insurance carrier immediately, gave them the contact information for the witness and the AIR # as well as the case number and reporting officer's contact information. No physical injuries, but damage to my car, none to the other drivers that I saw. He had a roll bar instead of a bumper and I saw no color of my car paint on it. Of course I did this before he left the scene of the accident. I thank you for your mature and knowledgable response.
