Car Accident and Trial for "Careless Driving"

What is the name of your state? Colorado
I was in a car accident on 12/28/2006 during a snow storm in Denver colorado. I slide and hit a public utility snow plow. His car was not really damaged and my insurance took care of the public utility car damage but the police officer gave me a ticket for 4 points careless driving. What is my option here in the court? I went to the hearing and said that it was not in my power to avoid the accident I stopeed on time but start sliding. The Magistrat said to go to a trial. what should I be saying in my defense any tips or pointers would be nice

I don't know what you could use as your defense. You were, apparently, going too fast for the road conditions.
