Car and health insurance?

What is the name of your state? Missouri

I posted on here a few weeks ago about a car accident that my wife was in where her car was totalled by another driver. I got a lot of good information about how the car claim will work.....since the at fault driver didn't carry enough insurance to cover our car.....Long story short, my insurnace company is covering our car, they will get the amount of money from the other insurance co., and they are going to try and sue for the difference (my insurance co. is doing the sueing).

But my new question is how do we collect on the medical portion of the bills. So far my wife's health insurance is paying all the bills. Our car insurance said they are not responsible for any health issues (I guess since we have health insurance we don't have it thru our vehicle?). A friend of ours went thru this a few years back, similar situation where the person who hit her didn't have enough insurance coverage, etc., etc. Her insurance sued the at fault person for more than what her coverage was for and they won, she got more money than what the at fault person had coverage for**************So if my car insurance person doesn't take care of any medical, do we need to go thru our health care provider? Our friend said we don't need a lawyer, our insurance companies lawyers battle it out for us? Is that true? We've called our insurance provider, but he hasn't returned our call. I don't want this to get away from us, so I just want to know if I need to find a lawyer, or is my car insurance giving us a story? We were told that the rule of thumb is to sue for 3 1/2 times the medical bills, for any unforseen medical conditions in the future? My wife is in her second week of physical therapy, and has 10 more to go, she has been told she may have to see a chiropractor for the rest of her life. Does this sound like they way to go? Or do lawyers need to take care of it......When should we file suit? Is there time restrictions?

Thanks!!
