Car Sale question?

Im not sure if this is the right area to post in, but my issue is as follows. On January 27th, I sold my vehicle on Craigslist.org and got a response from someone who was interested. To make a long story short, I sold him the vehicle that day and 10 minutes after he gave me the money, and i gave him all the paper work, I went on the DMV website and filled out the release of liability form. Today, I get a call from the man telling me that he took the car to a Mechanic and said it needs to be fixed and will cost 550 dollars and wants me to pay him half for the costs. i called up 2 police departments and asked them about this, and they both said after that form has been filled out, it is no longer my problem and most, if not, call used cars are sold as is.

I sold the vehicle with best intentions and as far as I am concerned and to my knowledge, the truck was in excellent condition. He wasn't under any pressure to buy my truck and had enough time to look things over and take it for a test drive (which he did not do)

Is there anything else I can do about this situation?

Tell him you don't feel it's your responsibility to pay and if he wanted to get it checked out by a mechanic, he could have done so BEFORE the sale was final. He could try to take you to court over it, but I don't see how he has much of a case for it.

This happens all the time because buyers don't understand the "as-is" used car sales laws. Sometimes they get buyers remorse and are looking for a way out and sometimes they have legitimate car problems that may or may not be caused by them. I can tell you for sure that if you take ANY used car to a mechanic, they will find SOMETHING that needs to be fixed and $500 is cheap... It is unlikely that any judge will side with the buyer unless you tried to delibertely defraud him or it looks like you tried to defraud him or you gave him express warantees. Think about what you said, what you did and what you know and if you feel OK about it, I wouldn't worry. People try to intimidate sellers to help them with their costs because they have nothing to lose-- after all they might get you to pay something...

actually, since you took the time to delete the germane state WHICH IS ASKED FOR when you submit a new thread, any advice you get concerning this is useless.

Some states do require sales of cars to meet certain criteria, such as passing an emissions test or safety inspection. They cannot be considered "as is" in those circumstances, but since you decided to bypass the state involved**************

different states have different laws, before emmisions tests, and inspections, it was generally accepted that if you did not make claims such as rebuilt motor, new transmission, and stated in the ad it was "as is" you would be okay. Dont take legal advice from the police. My advice, buy the dang vechicle back, and get this guy out of your hair.

This is a test and my first post. I surely will make sure the paperwork is in order from the DMV. And maybe send him a copy.
