Car Stolen; Vehicle caused property damage

What is the name of your state? Indiana

My friend's vehicle was stolen from the street overnite. The car was then crashed into a house by the thief who then took off and left the car. My friend was notified by the police that they found his car ( he didn't even know it was stolen yet) and that there was damage to the car and someone's property.
He carries full coverage insurance through State Farm. Today, he heard from an attorney representing the homeowner, who's house was crashed into with his stolen car with a claim for 9K dollars. State Farm is claiming that he's responsible and they are not because the vehicle was "stolen". Can this be the case? It sounds completely off-base to me. I would think the auto policy would cover this.
Thanks

Your friend is not responsible if the car was stolen. Neither is State Farm. The homeowner needs to claim it against his homeowner's insurance or pay it himself. Your friend needs to make sure that the police report has it listed as stolen, and have the attorney contacting him contact the police to obtain a copy. It's not his responsibility to do anything about this.
