Car totaled while someone else was driving my car

About a week ago I let my roomamate use my car to drive himself to work. While he was going there, another car ran a red light and hit the car. The officer on the scene assigned 100% blame to the other party. My roommate is already filing a lawsuit as the driver for his personal injuries. This is my question, as the owner of the vehicle what are my legal rights, and what compensation am I entitled to. Am I able to file a lawsuit as well (as the owner of the vehicle), or would being named as a second party (as the owner) in his lawsuit be helpful?

You can file a 'property damage' claim against the other parties insurance. If they are uninsured, you can file a lawsuit against the other 'at fault' driver.

And you can also file a claim with YOUR insurance..... you do have insurance, don't you??
