car versus bike

What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? South Carolina

I was riding my bike on the sidewalk, when a car pulled into a parking deck. I ran into the back, passenger side of the car. Who would be at fault?

If you struck the car you are responsible (especially towards the rear). Even if you are not in a municipality in SC where riding on the sidewalks is legal you need to be extra vigilint. You don't get the right of way preference that pedestrians get (and drivers won't be looking for fast movers on the sidewalks).

I agree with FlyingRon, is it even legal for someone of your age to ride a bike on the sidewalk? It is up to you to stop for streets or be extra cautious at driveways or alleys.

Okay. Thanks, I understand and figured as much, but thought I would ask. I'm not sure what I have listed as my age though--is there an age limit to ride a bike on a sidewalk?

In many places it's never legal to ride a bike on a sidewalk.

If you had WALKED into the back side of the car, you'd be equally as at fault, you just probably would not have damaged the car in that case. Anyone operating a vehicle, motor or otherwise, needs to watch where they are going and use due care!
