Claim over 1 year old

What is the name of your state? MA
I was at fault for rear ending a car approximately 1 year ago. I repeatedly tried to contact other driver unsuccessfully for three (3 ) months. I filed a claim to fix damage to my car and even got points taken from my license.
I just received a call from my insurance company to inform me a claim has been made by the person involved in the accident.

Am I still liable for possible damages 1 year after incident?
Should I request to inspect other vehicle to prevent charges for additional damage?
Would this be considered a separate claim or is it part of the original claim I made?

MY RESPONSE: Absolutely. As a matter of fact, MA has a 3-year Statute of Limitations on "negligence" - - and that's what you're being tagged for in this matter.

MY RESPONSE: Why? Isn't your insurance company assigning you an attorney in the event you're sued? While the matter is still in the "claim" stage, your insurance adjuster will obtain photos and estimates of the other person's car and damages. Sit back for now, and roll with the punches.
