I was in a car accident last November. I got hit from someone from behind. I let a lawyer handle everything for my accident. As of today, there are tons of medical bills going after me, and the case is still going. My lawyer told me that I don't have to do anything about it. I need to buy a house now; however, the medical bills are haunting my credit. It's an amount that I cannot afford. My lawyer seems not willing to accept the settlement amount that the other party offers. I just want to clear from all my medical debts and settle so I can buy a house now. My question is can I choose what amount to settle? Or since my lawyer is representing me, he chooses what amount to settle that I have no decisions at all? What do I need to do to clear my medical bill in my credit report.

You need to relax a little and let your lawyer do his job. Usually lawyers are trying to get you to settle so if hes not your looking at way to little money. I know it is stressful to have these bills hanging over your head but you might be sorry later if you settle for too little. As far as buying a house goes, talk to a mortgage rep., they can tell you what you would have to do to counteract any damage done to your credit. I will tell you that we sued and were offered 25k which we did not accept. In the end we recieved 150k. A nice chunck to put down on a house.
