Dented car and destroyed cell phone/property damamge

My daughter and her friend were hanging out with other friends at the park. My daughter laid her keys and cell phone on the friends trunk. My daughters cell phone came up missing and was thought to be stolen. The next day my daughters friend goes to open her trunk and the cell phone has some how become wedges between the trunk and the back glass. While pushing the trunk open the friend crushes my daughters cell phone and places a dent in her own car. Now her parents have contacted us and would like us to pay for the dent but, do not want to pay for the cell phome which she crushed. Who has responsibility in this matter. They looked all over and could not find the phone. I believe someone placed it there and that is how it got wedged between the glass and trunk. So, who is at fault? Is anyopne at fault. I view it as an accident and am not worried about the cell phone being replaced by them since they broke it. Would this just be considered a wash?

I don't think the car owner is responsible for the cell phone, nor do I think the phone owner is responsible for the damage to the car. Stuff happens and someone else is NOT always liable for it.
