Failed to furnish proper insurance and registration

What is the name of your state? New Jersey (NJ)

What is the name of your state? New Jersey

I was issued 4 tickets earlier this evening while I was test driving a car.

1. Driving an uninsured vehicle
2. Driving an unregistered vehicle
3. Wrong plates on the car
4. Making improper U-turn

I was test driving a car earlier today as a favor for a friend and I was stopped by a cop for making an improper U-turn. I was not aware that the dealer had not put the right plates on the car and didnt know where the insurance card was. The car had dealer plates inside the car but they were out of view and I also failed to furnish the proper registration and insurance papers for the car when stopped by the cop since I didnt know where they were kept inside the car.

I currently have full comprehensive coverage on another car that I own in NJ by Geico would this cover the dealer car I was driving.

I have never had such tickets before. I probably have 2 points on my license which were levied about 2-3 years ago. No prior convictions clean record What is my course of action? I plan to hire an attorney tomorrow. Do you think he/she will be able to have the tickts dropped or at least reduced.

What are the costs involved in such a case and what are the chances of the charges being dropped or reduced.

Please advise

Thanks

Insurance follows the car, not the driver, so no.

Hiring an attorney is a waste of money IMHO. Go to court and explain what you did here and three of the tickets should be thrown out. It sounds like you're guilty of the illegal u turn ticket so you'll probably have to pay up for that one.

Normally a simple traffic court case is around $1000, though it can depend on the attorney. See above for the second part of your question.

Your insurance should cover you while test-driving a car. Under most circumstances, policies will cover occasional driving of non-owned vehicles (borrowed, rented etc) as a supplement to whatever insurance the owner of the car has. If you go to court and show proof there of your insurance and the dealer's insurance and registration, they might drop some of the tickets. The improper plates citation I would think should be issued to the owner of the car, not you, shouldn't it?

So the laws for women are different than for men?

Proof of registration and a license are always required in every state. Proof of insurance coverage also in those states that require it. Phone number? I think somebody was either playing with your head or was an idiot.

their is on reason for you to see car registration. All that's needed to report an accident is insurnace policy number, person name, address, phone number. It's also good to have dl number, copy the vin number of the car and the plate. Their nothing on registration that you need to report an accident.

How about the registered owner. Or did you forget about that line on the SR1?

all you need is the name of the person on the insurance. Usually it's the register owner of the car. Either way let the insurance company figure out who the register owner is.
