false car accident =big problem

YOUR STATE NAME - new jersey

okay heres the story . we had a guy lie and say that we hit him with our truck, now we were charged with leaving the scene of an accident and no insurance. we have been to court. the judge believed the guy and we appealed we won on appeal. the reason the judge believed the guy to begin with i dont know. anyway we have the transcripsts from the trial and another trial that this guy brought against us. in two different trials he told two different stories i mean completely different!!!!!! anyway on the appeal the appeals judge stated what a liar and on artist this guy is.
Now for my question this guy has brought a civil case against us for this same acident ( THAT NEVER EVER HAPPENED ) can he do this? when we went to court for the criminal charges he had no doctors note or anything saying if he had injuries. he claims we ran over his foot and then it was his shoulder got hurt then its his kidney. he was wearing a shoulder brace 8 months after he fact ( the kind you can buy anywhere) with nothing under it and he stated he had to have surgery.but he was using the same arm that had the brace at the trial which the judge took note of. anyway I just wante to knowif he could really win a case like this?
any input would be appreciated**************...
